It's been an eternity now since the last one of these and admittedly I haven't been nearly as active on NG here this year so far, but there's been an awful lot going on in the background of my life. If you want to hear about that, go ahead and read on, otherwise, you can just skip ahead to the artist's feature! I've got little sections here!
-SCHOOL NIGHT SEANCE-
There's been a ton of progress made on that and I've got a Kickstarter planned for a little later on in the year once our demo is ready to release. I think we're going to aim for October just to give us enough time to polish and debug, but we do have a full "paper demo" available already complete with the voice acting and cutscenes and I've slowly been having people test that for now since we've only got the first three rooms of the real game finished so far. In any case, let me know if you'd like to try it! I'd love to have a few more people try that (or even some of the side puzzles that won't be in the demo) just to get more feedback!
-LIFE IN THE NETHERLANDS-
I've been here a full two months now and I really like it for the most part! Getting all my paperwork in place for my visa has definitely taken a lot of effort, but I've finally finished that part of the whole ordeal now and my next big things are figuring out taxes and getting my hormone prescription/getting health insurance. I knew up front that the moving process would be expensive, but there's a lot of odds and ends that I hadn't really accounted for too, so that's been a bit tricky. I think I should be okay on money through at least the rest of the year, but I might end up needing to reevaluate things if the game ends up falling through.
Aside from the money of it all though, I do think it's a very nice place to live. I got myself a bike and learned how to ride the train and I feel like I can get pretty much anywhere without a car which feels really cool! I've also started to make a few new friends here and as a result, I've learned a bit more about the nearby countries too! On that same note, I get to meet @p-pamda tomorrow in Amsterdam, so I'll get to explore a bit there too. :D
-ART FIGHT-
I initially didn't really plan on participating in this year's art fight and in all honesty I probably won't have time to do too many drawings for people, but I couldn't bring myself to just skip it entirely, so I went ahead and made myself a card earlier today. We're in! (At least a little)
-UNDERRATED ARTIST'S FEATURE-
Wow, it's been way too long since the last one of these. I kept telling myself I'd do one soon and then I'd get distracted by something else that I felt like I couldn't put off. ANYWAY, let's get started FINALLY!
First off I've gotta give a shout out to my good friend @effieVision, who finally made an account here recently and started posting some of her old tracks. You might remember her from the song she made for game Homecoming from last year, but she's also got a lot of great stuff, heavy on those genuine "feelings".
@vecmich is another artist that's new to Newgrounds, and I really love that they're posting some sketchbook flipthroughs! I've always been jealous of folks with nice sketchbook work, and not enough people really showcase that kind of stuff! Some really expressive lineart and environments that feel truly lived in. A lot of great stuff here.
@JarrodPrince doesn't have a huge gallery, but they released a couple short cartoons earlier this year and I had a blast with them. They're both got a great multimedia feel to them, with puppets, 2D animation and even a bit of pixel art thrown into the mix! Would highly recommend giving them a look!
I'll forever be an Undertale hater, (sorry guys) but it's fanartists like @RosettaCamborda that get me to second guess myself every once in a while...Rosetta's gallery has a nice range of styles in there, but it's so rare that I ever get to see anyone doing traditional printmaking here, and I think those pieces are really refreshing to see.
And to round off this feature, we've got @SLUSHIE-SWEETHEART! Bright neon colors, sharp edges, and an "anything goes" attitude towards character design; there's an awful lot of unhinged fun on display here. :D
I think that's all I've got for now, but I think I can promise not to take so long with the next underrated artist feature! (And maybe just life updates in general) Things are happening, I promise! And let me know if you want to test out the "paper" version of the game too!
SouSTAR
@SLUSHIE-SWEETHEART often get mentioned in underrated artists shootout posts and even got some art pieces of her being featured on the frontpage!
Slushie the goat!!!
Bleak-Creep
Good good! Well deserved! :D
