haha first one to notice it ;D
Still gotta get to the boss yet, maybe when I plug in a controller or something, but I really only have two main complaints at the moment.
First is simple enough, the movement speed might be a touch too sensitive for this type of game, and the second is that having obstacles that require you to shoot through when your gun can overheat feels kind of unfair, especially with how long it takes for the gun to cool down. There aren't too many instances of this type of issue, since there's usually multiple routes you can take, but it does happen a couple times per level it seems.
Overall, it's a fun game with solid mechanics though! Looking forward to trying it with a controller sometime! :)
hi bleak-creep
you’re THE bleak creep!!! Woah!!! Hi!!!!!
Hello Bleak!!
Gotta try out this game from some of my old collaborators!
Sprites are pretty darn cute and the menu music after you get a game over sounds lovely. Gameplay works well enough for what it is, though it could definitely use some kind of scoring system or better feedback once you kill an enemy.
I'm giving it a 3 since I think that's the goal of the game jam? But I'll up it/subtract it later if it helps balance you out :)
Thank you for the feedback, working on this project definitely gave me a bit more confidence in my ability to make pixel art.
This does for top down racing what Super Meat Boy did for platformers. (I suppose there's some platforming in this game's blood too) Wish I could use a controller for this, but the controls are super tight and responsive regardless. Fantastic job. (Now I just need to finish these last few levels)
*And finished! Lilypads and Sharp Edges gave me the most trouble, but both really honed my skills too.
Yay, it's out! And apparently I need to do some studying caus I think I flunked out with a 42% :O
If it helps any, I'm rocking a 30% here x.x
Really cute game, and easy enough to play with a track pad too! I just wish you got a special ending screen if you were able to finish the shift. The art's super cute.
A neat little game. I still don't exactly know what the cane icon is supposed to represent, but I like to imagine that they used it to do a little jig and danced their troubles away.
Could’ve been clearer, yeah. It represents disability
Yayayay, it's out! Love all these horrible little beasties. Everyone did such a great job! :D
Been meaning to play this proper for a bit now. I messed around a bit at the end of the jam and remember thinking the movement and controls were nice and tight, and that holds true. The branching paths in the level design makes it fun to explore too, searching for cameos and extra cash along the way.
If I have any complaints, it's that I think the health/score could either be a bit smaller, or moved to the bottom of the screen, since the action always moves upward, and it can get in the way of seeing what you've got coming up next.
I also think it could be nice if you were to implement holding the shoot button to rapid fire too (maybe it's a bit slower?) just as an accessibility option for some players.
Cool game though! And trans rights! <3
Thx for playing the game Bleak!
"Health/score could either be a bit smaller, or moved to the bottom of the screen"
Fair point, I'll see if I can tweak some stuff to make it less crowded
"Rapid fire as accessibility (A bit slower)"
I think I can do that ✅
Thx for the review Bleak, I'll probably implement these stuff when I have the time! Trans rights 💙
bleak-creep you are COOL
I really like this one. The music's nice and soothing, but also kind of inspirational; it sets a great tone right away. The puzzles usually aren't too difficult, but some give you a nice sense of challenge, and the controls and concept are very easy to understand from the onset. It's a solid game.
